SPRING & SUMMER HAPPENINGS 2026 AT HOSPICE

Earth Day April 22nd was celebrated with the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. The group roared into Moog & Friends Hospice gardens, grabbed shovels, soil and transplanted beautiful spring potting plants and herbs into our garden pots. Thank you Blue Knights for a special Earth Day at Hospice.

Jeffer’s Fryzz Food Truck pulled into Moog & Friends Hospice House in June for a Fish & Chips Friday. Over 40 plates were served, stacked high with Jeffer’s Fish & Chips, poutine, coleslaw and tartar sauce. The buffet style lunch was a huge hit for volunteers, staff, residents and visiting family members. Hospice volunteers also helped to load up the plates and serve the fresh and hot lunch in the rooms for residents. Hospice Therapy dog Fred gave a big lick of approval for the poutine! Thank you Jeffer and your team for this generous donation of a lunchtime feast at Moog & Friends Hospice House.

Local band, “The Wrinkles” held a Hospice benefit concert in May at the Penticton Elks. Admission was by donation and the hall was packed! Thank you Elks for donating the space and for The Wrinkles and our local community. $2400 was raised for Moog & Friends Hospice House.

The Penticton Elvis Society chose Hospice Society as their charity this year at the Elvis Gospel Show. Over 1000 locals and visitors packed Okanagan Lake Park to enjoy the 3 hour show. $3.00 from every $5.00 admission was donated to Hospice. $3332.20 was raised from admission and donations. We also had a fabulous time backstage with the friendly and fun Elvis Tribute Artists. Looking forward to the Penticton Elvis Festival’s 25th anniversary in 2027.

Ho Ho HO!

The Blue Knights LEMC (Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club) popped into the Hospice House gardens to hand over their donation to Vice Board Chair Derek McKeever. Deer approved!

The residents of Regency Southwood Retirement Resort donated proceeds from sales in their Tuck Shop and in November Marge and Gail organized a donation box at their Christmas Craft Fair and received donations from residents and visitors.

Plein Air at Moog & Friends Hospice House Gardens, 2025

A group of 12 Plein Air artists visited the Hospice Gardens on a gorgeous sunny September morning. The artists set up their easels and paints in front of the Hospice House rooms, so residents and visitors could observe their creative process. Some residents and family members enjoyed a stroll in the gardens and chatted with the artists about their choices of mediums, canvases and subject matter. Many of the finished paintings were displayed at our first World Hospice Day event on October 11th and will be donated to Hospice Society for a future event.

A woman smiling outdoors, wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat, sunglasses, a colorful apron, and black sneakers, standing next to a small wicker table with painting supplies in a garden with trees, shrubs, and mountains in the background.
Older woman with gray hair, glasses, and a pink wristband, standing outdoors near a large tree, painting on a canvas set up on an easel. She is wearing a white shirt and a blue apron with paint stains, smiling, holding a paintbrush and palette. The painting on the canvas appears to be an abstract with pink and green colors. On the ground, there is a black case with painting supplies and a photograph of a white flower with a bee. The background shows a beige fence, green grass, and tall trees.
Several people painting outdoors under trees with sunlight filtering through the leaves, with art supplies and paintings visible.
A woman kneeling on the grass outdoors, painting on a canvas set on an easel, surrounded by painting supplies and a small green side table, with bushes and a house in the background.
Painting of a red rose with two buds and green leaves against a green textured background, signed by the artist 'Gladish'.
An elderly woman paints a sunflower on a canvas outdoors, sitting at a small table with artist supplies, under a tree with a white fence behind her.
Three pieces of artwork displayed on a wooden surface against a textured wall: a vibrant sunflower painting on the left, a framed landscape drawing in the middle, and a colorful painting of a deer on the right.

In the summer of 2025 we gave a huge bravo and applause to Opera Kelowna and the "Sidewalk Serenades" opera singers who put on 2 pop-up performances in the Moog & Friends Hospice House gardens. Hospice volunteers, staff and residents relaxed at the gazebo, or had their windows open to breathe in Italian operettas from Christine, who works as an LPN at Penticton Regional Hospital and Sophia, the Serenades coordinator. Opera Kelowna chorus members volunteer their time for these free outdoor concerts, at various long-term facilities in the Okanagan. A lovely uplifting memory through song in our Hospice Gardens.
