Plein Air at Moog & Friends Hospice House Gardens, 2025

A group of 12 Plein Air artists visited the Hospice Gardens on a gorgeous sunny September morning. The artists set up their easels and paints in front of the Hospice House rooms, so residents and visitors could observe their creative process. Some residents and family members enjoyed a stroll in the gardens and chatted with the artists about their choices of mediums, canvases and subject matter. Many of the finished paintings were displayed at our first World Hospice Day event on October 11th and will be donated to Hospice Society for a future event.

Older woman with gray hair, glasses, and a pink wristband, standing outdoors near a large tree, painting on a canvas set up on an easel. She is wearing a white shirt and a blue apron with paint stains, smiling, holding a paintbrush and palette. The painting on the canvas appears to be an abstract with pink and green colors. On the ground, there is a black case with painting supplies and a photograph of a white flower with a bee. The background shows a beige fence, green grass, and tall trees.

Three pieces of artwork displayed on a wooden surface against a textured wall: a vibrant sunflower painting on the left, a framed landscape drawing in the middle, and a colorful painting of a deer on the right.

Sidewalk Serenades

In the summer of 2025 we gave a huge bravo and applause to Opera Kelowna and the "Sidewalk Serenades" opera singers who put on 2 pop-up performances in the Moog & Friends Hospice House gardens. Hospice volunteers, staff and residents relaxed at the gazebo, or had their windows open to breathe in Italian operettas from Christine, who works as an LPN at Penticton Regional Hospital and Sophia, the Serenades coordinator. Opera Kelowna chorus members volunteer their time for these free outdoor concerts, at various long-term facilities in the Okanagan. A lovely uplifting memory through song in our Hospice Gardens.

Behind her, a maroon banner reads 'Opera Kelowna Sidewalk Serenades'. There are green trees, plants, and a man kneeling or crouching with a hat and gray hoodie in front of the banner.
